Everything you need to know about Functional Training
What is included in a Functional Training session?
At Valor Gym we provide traditional Crossfit or Hyrox athletes will find all the necessary equipment required for their WOD. We are not an affiliated gym for either program.
A functional training session is designed to train the body for the activities performed in daily life or sports. Unlike traditional bodybuilding, which often focuses on isolating specific muscles (like a bicep curl), functional training focuses on movement patterns that involve multiple joints and muscle groups working together.
For Busy Professionals: It builds “durability” to prevent back pain from sitting and increases energy levels through efficient, full-body work.
For Young Athletes: It builds the coordination and explosive power needed for sports while teaching proper mechanics to prevent injuries on the field.

How can I prepare for fitness race training in Marshfield?
Take advantage of our versatile set of equipment and space. A fitness race is won or lost at the stations. You need to prepare your grip and your posterior chain:
- Farmer’s Carries: Essential for grip strength.
- Sled Pushes/Pulls: If your gym has turf lanes, these are non-negotiable. Aim for heavy, slow pushes to build leg drive.
Wall Balls: Practice high-volume sets (30+) to get used to the heart-rate spike.
